Ajay Devgn has delivered yet another big success this year in the form of Golmaal 3 which has neared the Rs. 100 crores mark already. Meanwhile, he is ready to kick start quite a few new projects with friend and associate Rohit Shetty. While the remake of Singham would be the first to go on floors, there is another film planned after that as well. Meanwhile, there is also Golmaal 4 which would go on floors towards end of 2011/early 2012.
Due to this, one can safely presume that Ajay would be pretty exclusive to his own close gang. After all he is a regular with the likes of Rohit Shetty and Kumar Mangat. In addition, he has his own production house to run as well for which he would soon be wearing a director’s hat.
“Well, that’s not entirely true actually. I am not a part of any particular gang”, defends Ajay, “I am working with Priyadarshan [Tezz], Milan Luthria and Madhur Bhandarkar [Dil Toh Bachcha Hai Ji] as well. Ultimately, I work with different people on different kind of scripts and play different kind of characters. Whoever can come up with the best film, I would work with him. Issme kisi particular gang ke saath kaam karne waali koyi baat nahi hai.”
Meanwhile, if one looks at his 2010 journey so far, it is akin to him being a batsman who has faced five deliveries already and his waiting for his sixth.
He enjoyed a couple of runs with his first delivery (Atithi Tum Jab Jaoge). There was a massive six on the second delivery that he faced (Raajneeti). The third saw him hitting a cracker of a boundary yet again (Once Upon A Time In Mumbaai). He was adjudged LBW on the fourth (Aakrosh). He came back with a vengeance on the fifth and dispatched it over the boundary (Golmaal 3). And now that he is taking a stance to face the last and final delivery of the over in the form of Toonpur Ka Superhero, spectators (read audience) are expecting him to hit a boundary, if not a six, yet again.
“Well, that’s some interesting observation”, laughs Ajay, “Of course who doesn’t want to score with every ball? Yes, I do hope and believe that I would have more hits before the year comes to a close.”
However, he refuses to admit that there are any nervous and anxious moments that he is spending in anticipation of the 2010 sailing past smoothly in entirety. “See, I am not here to play just one over. I have been around for 20 years and have hit at least a boundary or a six in each year. There are always many more balls to face”, he says in his characteristic casual manner.
Though he would be having at least half a dozen more releases in the next couple of years, he still maintains that he is looking forward to cutting down on work soon.
“I am surely going to have far lesser releases planned ahead. I know that there are films of mine which are either on floors or would be going there soon. Par kya karein, aisa ho jaata hai“, he shrugs away with a smile, “I want to cut down on films but I somehow I am not able to do that. But you would see that after a year or so, there would be a sharp decline in the projects that I sign.”
Well, we too look forward to that Ajay.
