Veteran actress Sudha Chandran recently spoke about her long association with producer Ektaa R Kapoor and reflected on the filmmaker’s approach towards casting and storytelling in Indian television. Recalling her experience of working on the iconic television show Kaahin Kissii Roz, Sudha shared how Ektaa R Kapoor remained confident about the character of Ramola Sikand even when the actress herself initially had doubts about the role’s dramatic presentation.
Speaking about the early days of the show, Sudha Chandran revealed that she had questioned whether the portrayal of her character was becoming too loud. However, Ektaa R Kapoor reportedly reassured her with complete confidence about the impact the role would eventually create. “When I met Ekta 4-5 days after the shoot began, I asked her, ‘Don't you think it's too loud?’ She just said one thing to me, ‘Sudha, ma'am, just wait for six months and you will be the talk of the town.’ How futuristic she was,” Sudha recalled.
The actress also spoke about Ektaa R Kapoor’s understanding of casting and said that the producer has consistently trusted actors she believed were suitable for particular roles. “Of all the people, if Ekta chose me to do the role, that shows she picks up the right actor for the right role,” Sudha said. “She knows her job. When somebody knows which actor will do justice to a certain role, that is what you call the correct producer. She has never been proved wrong in her casting,” she added.
Over the years, Ektaa R Kapoor has been associated with several successful television franchises and daily soaps that became widely popular among audiences. From family dramas to supernatural thrillers, many of her shows have played a significant role in shaping mainstream Hindi television content across generations.
Sudha Chandran also referred to the response around the return of Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi and how there was scepticism initially about whether the show could still connect with viewers after many years. “Some naysayers said it won't work after 25 years. What happened? It became the No. 1 show. See her conviction,” she remarked.
The actress further cited the success of Naagin, adding that many had doubted whether the concept would work effectively on television. However, the supernatural drama eventually went on to become one of the most successful franchises in the genre.
Through projects spanning multiple genres, Ektaa R Kapoor continues to remain one of the most prominent names in Indian television, with several actors acknowledging her instinct for casting and audience-driven storytelling.
