Directed by John Matthew Matthan, Sarfarosh starred Aamir Khan in the lead role and is today remembered as a cult classic with strong repeat value among audiences. Recalling the film’s release period, Sonali Bendre said, “Sarfarosh, when it came out, people wrote it off as a documentary. Nobody expected it to work. When it became successful, everybody was surprised.”

The actor further shared that despite the film’s success and popularity over the years, she was often told that her role was not significant enough to be considered for awards recognition. Talking about the criticism she faced at the time, Sonali said, “Reviews said I was the comic relief in the film. I was told, ‘That was not your film. You were just the comic relief.’ So I never got nominated for it.”

Over time, however, the actor’s perspective towards the film has changed significantly, especially after witnessing the love the movie continues to receive from audiences even decades later. “Sarfarosh has such repeat value,” she added.

Apart from revisiting memories associated with Sarfarosh, Sonali Bendre also expressed her desire to explore comedy more extensively as an actor. According to her, comedy remains one of the most challenging genres to execute successfully. “Comedy is something I would love to do,” she shared during the conversation.

The actor also fondly remembered shooting for Love Ke Liye Kuch Bhi Karega alongside Saif Ali Khan. Speaking about the experience, Sonali revealed that many moments in the film were improvised on set. “Saif and I had such a blast doing it,” she said, reflecting on the enjoyable shooting process behind the comedy film.

On the professional front, Sonali Bendre is currently going through a busy and exciting phase in her career. The actor has signed an action-thriller web series titled Raakh alongside Ali Fazal, which was officially announced by Prime Video India.

She also made a brief appearance in the 2025 film Be Happy and has remained active on television with projects including the show Pati Patni Aur Panga.
