In an interview with Film Companion, Sonakshi Sinha opened up about a scene in Rowdy Rathore wherein Akshay Kumar holds her waist and says, ‘Yeh Mera Maal Hai’. The scene was considered to be quite sexist in terms of objectification of women and the actress was questioned for doing a scene that is demeaning to the gender. Sinha responded to the same, saying, “Today where I stand, I would never do something like that.”

She added that she was offered the film at the initial stages of her career and bagging a film with the combination of Akshay Kumar, Prabhudeva (director) and Sanjay Leela Bhansali (producer) was a massive deal for her. “I was so young at that time that I was not thinking in this direction. For me, it was a fact that I am doing a film with Prabhudheva, I am doing a film with Akshay Kumar, who would say no to something like that? Sanjay Leela Bhansali was producing it. Why would I say no? At that time, my thinking was very very different. Today, if I would read a script like that, I would not do it. Things change with time, I too have changed,” she added.

She further went to speak about how people blamed her for doing the scene but no one questioned the writer who wrote the scene or the director who directed it. “People used to always put the blame on me and the woman is always the villain in a situation like that. Nobody spoke about the writer who wrote the lines, nobody spoke about the person who directed the film,” she stated.

Sonakshi Sinha has also done many solo films as leads which includes Akira, Noor, Khandani Shafaqana, among others. On the web-series front, while Dahaad premiered on May 12 on Amazon Prime Video, the actress also has Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s magnum opus Heeramandi in the pipeline. On the film front, Sonakshi has Nikita Roy And The Book of Darkness as well as the Akshay Kumar, Tiger Shroff starrer Bade Miyan Chote Miyan in the pipeline.
