The actor-producer attended Berlin International Film Festival as a ‘student of cinema’, reflecting on journey from Masaan’s Cannes premiere to global storytelling ambitions.

Actor and producer Shweta Tripathi marked a new milestone in her cinematic journey by attending the Berlin International Film Festival for the first time. Known for her association with independent and content-driven films, Shweta described her Berlinale experience as that of a “student of cinema,” immersing herself in screenings, discussions and cross-cultural exchanges.

Her relationship with international film festivals dates back to her debut feature Masaan, directed by Neeraj Ghaywan. The film premiered at the Cannes Film Festival and went on to win two awards, including the FIPRESCI Prize. Reflecting on that phase, Shweta recalled receiving the news while on a road trip in the United States after attending the Indian Film Festival of Los Angeles for Haramkhor, where she won Best Actor. “That moment changed how I saw cinema. It wasn’t just about release or box office. It was about stories travelling, conversations starting, and cultures meeting,” she said.

At Berlinale this year, Shweta participated in panel discussions, watched a range of international films and attended a live orchestra screening of a Charlie Chaplin classic. She also interacted with global creatives, including writer Jack Thorne. She went on to share, “For me, festivals are where cinema breathes differently. You’re reminded that stories don’t belong to one country. They belong to everyone.” Now expanding her role beyond acting into production, Shweta has expressed a desire to take her future projects to global platforms. Her focus, she said, remains on storytelling that travels across borders. “I love festivals. I love the conversations, the curiosity, the celebration of storytelling. This is just the beginning. See you over there,” she concluded.

Following her Berlinale visit, Shweta is set to travel to Amsterdam to attend a live concert by Hans Zimmer, continuing what she describes as a journey shaped by cinema, music and creative exchange. From Cannes to Berlin, and now toward producing her own festival-bound films, Shweta Tripathi’s international engagement with cinema continues to evolve.
