Rajeev Khandelwal, who has been doing a fine job across television, films and the web, will be seen in a dynamic avatar in the upcoming digital show, Showtime. It will be aired on Disney+ Hotstar from March 8 and sees Rajeev in the role of eccentric superstar, Armaan Singh. During the promotion of this show, Rajeev Khandelwal raised some important points and also opened up about his meeting with Shah Rukh Khan and Karan Johar 20 years ago.

Rajeev Khandelwal told Mid-Day that it was the first time he met KJo and probably also Shah Rukh. He revealed that while many were not treating him with respect at the event as he had the tag of TV actor, both Shah Rukh Khan and Karan Johar were quite gracious.

Rajeev Khandelwal revealed, “I met him (Karan Johar) at an event where most of the film industry was performing, and I was the only one from television. So, I was made to feel a certain way. I missed a step while performing. When I was cursing myself backstage for it, Karan and Shah Rukh [Khan] walked up to me and introduced themselves. Karan said, ‘My mother [Hiroo Johar] finds you adorable,’ while Shah Rukh spoke about girls liking me. Then they both blessed me.”

Interestingly, Showtime is produced by none other than Karan Johar. It also stars Emraan Hashmi, Mouni Roy and Shriya Saran.

In the same interview, Rajeev Khandelwal thundered that TV actors are responsible for the bias against them. He said, “When they (TV actors) are performing on a reality show and someone, who hasn’t even proved his mettle, is sitting as a judge, why do [TV artistes] make it look like the judges are big and they are small in stature? Why do TV actors suck up to the most frivolous of stars? Take pride in who you are and [the movie industry] will look at you with respect.”
