Actor Shilpa Shetty Kundra has moved the Bombay High Court, filing a suit to safeguard her personality-protection rights, following unauthorized usage of her images and videos.

According to HT City, Shetty who has had a long career in India and won the international show Big Brother in 2007 has named numerous websites in her lawsuit that allegedly used her pictures illegally to promote various products or services. The suit reportedly includes 27 identified defendants, along with several “John Doe” defendants, indicating that hundreds of unauthorized uses may be involved.
Her lawyer, Sana Raees Khan, argues forcefully on her behalf, “Ms. Shilpa Shetty has built her reputation over decades of work and no entity can appropriate her name or likeness without consent. The unauthorised commercial exploitation of her identity is an outright assault on her dignity and hard earned reputation.” Shetty has asked the court to put an end to such misuse and protect her identity from being treated “as a commodity.”
The move comes amid a broader surge of public figures turning to courts to protect their “personality rights” in other words, their name, image and likeness against unauthorized use and distortion.
As the case proceeds, it could set a precedent for how courts treat unauthorized commercial use of celebrities’ images. Meanwhile, for Shetty, it is not only about financial loss but about safeguarding her reputation and the dignity she has built over decades.
