In an interview with Pinkvilla, veteran actor Shekhar Suman opened up about the struggles his son, Adhyayan Suman, faced in the film industry due to baseless rumours. Despite Adhyayan's talent, powerful figures in the industry allegedly ensured he was sidelined, leading to a significant struggle for work. Shekhar revealed that even acclaimed director Sanjay Leela Bhansali (SLB) was initially influenced by these false allegations, which included claims of indiscipline and drug use.

Shekhar Suman expressed his frustration over the industry's unfair treatment of Adhyayan, questioning why his son, despite his evident potential, wasn't being offered work. "If everyone has seen his potential, why are they not offering him any work?" he asked, highlighting the nepotism and favouritism prevalent in the industry. He mentioned that certain cliques within Bollywood make it difficult for outsiders or those targeted by rumours to find opportunities.

The turning point came with SLB's Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar, where both Shekhar and Adhyayan delivered notable performances. Shekhar shared his gratitude towards Bhansali for recognizing Adhyayan's talent and giving him a chance despite the damaging rumours. He quoted Bhansali, who confessed, "Unhone kaha main apne aapko kos raha tha ke main isko pehle kyun nahin laaya aur agar nahin leta to kitna bada gunaah karta," expressing deep regret for not casting Adhyayan earlier.

Heeramandi, released on Netflix on May 1, immerses viewers in the world of courtesans in pre-independence India. The series, comprising eight episodes, features an ensemble cast including Manisha Koirala, Sonakshi Sinha, Richa Chadha, and Aditi Rao Hydari. The performances of Shekhar and Adhyayan Suman have been particularly praised, marking a significant milestone in Adhyayan's career amidst his long-standing battle against industry bias.
