Sharmila Tagore recalls getting death threats before her marriage with Mansoor Ali Khan.

Veteran Bollywood actress, Sharmila Tagore’s opened up on the struggle she had to go through before she got married to the late Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi, the titular Nawab of Pataudi. In 1968, Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi, well known as Tiger Pataudi, wed Sharmila Tagore. Despite the fact that they were both well-known figures in their respective areas, many were against their marriage. In an interview, Sharmila said that her parents frequently received anonymous threats prior to her wedding in Kolkata.

In the interview, Sharmila told Barkha Dutt, “In Kolkata, when I was getting married, my parents were getting telegrams saying that bullets shall speak. And Tiger’s family was also getting… they were getting a little worried.”

She added, “We just announced to our respective parents that we want to get married and that was that. He carried on with his cricket and I carried on with my films.”

She also revealed that when she was in Delhi, two people came to meet her and asked whether she needed any protection. She said, “‘We are from the CBI or something and do you need protection?’ I said, ‘what for?’ I mean I’m fine. Delhi thought I needed protection.”

On the personal front, Tagore had converted to Islam and changed her name to Begum Ayesha Sultana. They embraced parenthood in 1970 and welcomed a boy. They had three children, Saif Ali Khan, Saba Ali Khan and Soha Ali Khan.

On the professional front, Sharmila Tagore’s OTT film, which is helmed by Rahul Chittella, Gulmohar released today on Disney+ Hotstar to a good response. The actress returned to silver screen after 12 years. She was previously seen in Break Ke Baad featuring Deepika Padukone and Imran Khan.
