Veteran actor Sharat Saxena, known for his roles in films like Sherni, Dabangg 3, and Race 3, recently opened up about a challenging phase in his career that followed the success of his 1998 film Ghulam, which also features Aamir Khan. Despite receiving critical acclaim for his performance as the film's antagonist, Ronnie, Saxena faced an unexpected setback in his career.
Sharat Saxena reveals Aamir Khan suggested his name for Ghulam; shares “tragedy” of his life
In a conversation with Rajshri Unplugged, Saxena revealed that Aamir Khan suggested his name for the role of Ronnie. Khan, impressed by Saxena's ability to excel in smaller roles, believed he would perfectly fit the character of a boxer.
Saxena recalled a conversation with Khan at the producer's house after the film's success, where he inquired about the reason behind Khan's recommendation. Khan responded, "Whenever I have seen you, I have seen you in small roles but you always do them well, which is why I suggested your name."
Despite the positive response to his performance in Ghulam, Saxena's career took an unexpected turn. He attributed this setback to the temporary shutdown of the film industry following the assassination of Gulshan Kumar, a prominent figure in the industry.
"No one was announcing films, no one was releasing films," Saxena recalled. "I did not get the work I could have gotten in that period, this was a tragedy in my life," he stated.
Saxena's film journey began with his role in Kaala Patthar and has since included prominent roles in films like Shakti, Karma, Mr. India, Soldier, Saathiya, Baghban, and Bajrangi Bhaijaan, among many others.
