On the occasion of his 60th birthday, Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan shared candid reflections on his 2011 superhero film Ra.One, describing it as a project close to his heart that was ahead of its time. Speaking at a fan meet in Mumbai, Khan expressed hopes that Ra.One would have sparked a new trend in Indian cinema—particularly in the superhero and visual effects space.

“With Ra.One, I thought everyone would recognize it as a superhero film with groundbreaking visual effects,” said SRK. “Studios would come here, and a lot of things would change. While it didn’t completely live up to those expectations initially, the film did well and many people loved it.”
Khan believes that if Ra.One were released today, in an era where smartphones, video games, and digital technology are widespread and better understood, the reception would be much more positive. “Back then, people weren’t as familiar with PlayStations, iPads, or similar tech. Now everyone has a smartphone. Today, it would probably be more acceptable,” he added.
Regarding a sequel, Shah Rukh Khan expressed openness to the idea but emphasized that it would depend on director Anubhav Sinha, who originally helmed Ra.One. “If Anubhav ever decides to… because he’s the one who made it, and only he can make it again. We worked really hard on that film, and God willing, if the time ever feels right, we might do it again,” SRK said, hinting at a potential return as G.One.
The actor’s remarks come as Ra.One completes 14 years since its release, a film that redefined the Indian superhero genre with its ambitious scale and technology-driven narrative. While the film faced mixed reviews initially, it has since gained appreciation for its pioneering visual effects.
