Sara Ali Khan, who is known for her peppy characters and chirpy roles, decided to move away from her usual persona to portray a historic figure like Usha Mehta. Inspired by real life events, the actress’ next release Ae Watan Mere Watan is a biopic of sorts of a rebel who brings a revolution against the British Empire, during the pre-Independence India by starting a radio.

While it is a one-of-a-kind role and a rare opportunity for Sara Ali Khan, the actress couldn’t help but feel gratitude, especially towards filmmaker Kannan Iyer. Taking to her official social media handle, the actress expressed her heartfelt gratitude by dedicating her post to the filmmaker as she said, "A story of bravery, sacrifice and strength, and a journey of self discovery , reinvention and reignited confidence. Only gratitude. Thank you Kannan Sir for believing that I could be your Usha, and in the process making me better, more real more honest Sara".

Along with the post, Sara Ali Khan also had shared several precious moments from the moments of the special screening of her film which was held a day before the release. Prior to this, the actress had also penned another note where she had requested her fans to catch the movie on Prime Video and had said, “Grateful, proud & honoured ???????????? For the unversed, the late Usha Mehta was an iconic female freedom fighter who inspired a revolutionary movement by broadcasting messages during the independence period to the remotest of locations, across the country and unified the nation, starting her own kind of battle against the British Raj.

With Sachin Khedekar, Abhay Verma, Alexx O'Nell in key roles, the film also featured Emraan Hashmi in a special cameo. Ae Watan Mere Watan released on March 21, on Prime Video.
