Renowned filmmaker Sanjay Leela Bhansali has addressed the circulating rumors about his highly anticipated film Love and War, starring Alia Bhatt, Ranbir Kapoor, and Vicky Kaushal. In an exclusive interview with The Hollywood Reporter India, Bhansali confirmed that the film is not a remake of the 1964 classic Sangam, putting an end to widespread speculation.

"You should not remake Sholay or Mother India. So, why would I remake Sangam?" Bhansali remarked, firmly dismissing the comparisons. The film, which is already garnering massive attention, marks Bhansali's reunion with Ranbir Kapoor after 18 years, following their work on Saawariya (2007).

Bhansali’s Take on ***Love and War*: A Unique Film**

Unlike Bhansali's previous films, which are known for their lavish period settings and grand aesthetics, Love and War is set in a contemporary backdrop. The director described it as a completely new space for him, explaining, “It’s contemporary. The music is different. It’s a new space for me, and I’m enjoying it.”

The film is particularly important for Bhansali, who revealed that it presents new challenges. “It’s a difficult film for me, so I’m being careful. I won’t take my actors, myself, or the audience for granted,” he said, stressing that he is taking his time with the project. Fans will have to wait for the release, slated for March 2026.

Bhansali on Reuniting with Alia and Ranbir

Love and War brings together some of Bollywood’s biggest stars. Bhansali is especially excited about reuniting with Ranbir Kapoor, saying, “It’s exciting to work with Ranbir again.” The filmmaker last worked with Kapoor on Saawariya and is eager to explore new dimensions of his acting.

Bhansali is equally thrilled about working again with Alia Bhatt, who previously starred in his National Award-winning film Gangubai Kathiawadi (2022). “There’s still so much to tap into with Alia. She’s a powerhouse,” Bhansali shared.

Vicky Kaushal Joins the Cast

For Vicky Kaushal, Love and War will mark his first collaboration with Bhansali. The director is known for his emotional connection with his cast and expressed how vital this project is for him personally. “This film is very special to me, and I’m lucky to have a cast that shares the same vision,” Bhansali remarked.
