Sameera Reddy had recently revealed how Hrithik Roshan had helped her overcome her stammering. Now, the actress has claimed that she turned down Ashutosh Gowariker’s film Lagaan due to her stammering problem.
Sameera also said that the director of the film still reminds her how she should have actually done the film. In a video she posted on Instagram, she spoke about turning down Lagaan. She said that the film did not come to her on a platter. “I went and met the director(Ashutosh), he really liked me and Ashutosh Gowarikar till today, when he meets me, says ‘Sameera, you know you could’ve done Lagaan!’ And I’m like yeah man!”
She adds, “But I wanna tell him today the reason I didn’t do it is that I was obnoxious… I was scared shitless!!! I was so scared of being judged, I was so scared that people will find out that I cannot speak. And that’s why I didn’t do Lagaan which could’ve been the biggest movie of my life.”
Lagaan is a movie set during the British era in which a farmer Bhuvan accepts the challenge of Captain Andrew Russell to beat his team in a game of cricket and enable his village to not pay taxes for the next three years. The film had Aamir Khan in the lead with several supporting casts who played pivotal characters in building up the narrative. Released in 2002, the film was nominated for the Oscars.
Meanwhile, Sameera Reddy is currently enjoying her blissful life as a mother of two beautiful children.
