Bollywood superstar Salman Khan is set to return to the big screen with his upcoming film Battle of Galwan, which had already generated significant buzz following the release of its teaser. Unveiled on the actor’s 60th birthday, the teaser sparked speculation that Salman would be portraying Colonel Santosh Babu. However, the makers clarified that the film followed a different narrative approach.
Battle of Galwan is not a biopic
According to a source close to the project, Battle of Galwan is inspired by the true events of the 2020 Galwan Valley clash but is not a biographical film. “Salman Khan’s Galwan is not a biopic on Colonel Santosh Babu. The film is based on the true events of the Galwan Valley clash. Known for conveying strong messages of humanity through his films, Salman Khan is expected to present a powerful human angle in the film’s climax,” the source told Hindustan Times.
The teaser featured Salman Khan leading his soldiers through the harsh terrain, armed with a stick, and offered glimpses of the challenging high-altitude environment and the realities of frontline combat.
Earlier, Salman had described the film as physically demanding. Speaking to PTI, he said, “It is physically demanding. Every year, every month, every day it gets more and more difficult. I have to give more time now (for training). Earlier, I would do it (train) in one or two weeks; now I'm running, kicking, punching, and all that stuff. This film demands that.”
About Battle of Galwan
Directed by Apoorva Lakhia, Battle of Galwan is based on the 2020 India–China clash in the Galwan Valley, during which Indian Army soldiers engaged in intense hand-to-hand combat with troops from the People’s Liberation Army. The film also starred Chitrangada Singh in a key role, along with Zeyn Shaw, Ankur Bhatia, Vipin Bhardwaj, and others in supporting roles.
Battle of Galwan is scheduled to release in theatres on April 17, 2026.
