Actor Saif Ali Khan recently opened up about work–life balance in the film industry and shared a candid moment with his son Taimur Ali Khan, who asked him an unexpected question about his career. The actor spoke about the conversation during a chat with sister Soha Ali Khan on her podcast, reflecting on the challenges of balancing professional commitments with family life.

Recalling the moment, Saif Ali Khan revealed that his young son had asked him how long he plans to continue working as an actor. Sharing his response, Saif said, “How much long are you planning to do this for? Which is something Tim also asked me recently. I said I don’t know, as long as I can! Forever, it is my job! But they are like, ‘No!’”
During the conversation, Soha Ali Khan pointed out that such questions make sense, especially since actors often spend long periods away from home while shooting. Responding to this, Saif explained that achieving balance is possible if work is structured efficiently. “It has evolved in a way… But it is possible, and it helps if one is successful. I can name a few people, colleagues and friends of mine in this industry who have balanced it well. They start work at 7 am. The camera rolls at 9 am and they get a lot of work done in a day as well as see their children in the evening before they sleep. It is all a balance where one has a month or two of intensive work and then they are off for a while to maintain the comfort,” he said.
The actor further described his approach to balancing work and life through an interesting metaphor. According to him, pursuing a career in films is similar to climbing a mountain. While reaching the top requires dedication and effort, it is equally important to maintain a stable “base camp.” Without that foundation, constantly climbing higher becomes unsustainable. In Saif’s view, maintaining that base camp — family and personal life — is what ultimately allows someone to continue pursuing their ambitions.
On the work front, Saif was last seen alongside Jaideep Ahlawat in the action thriller Jewel Thief: The Heist Begins, which premiered on Netflix and was directed by Kookie Gulati and Robbie Grewal. Up next, he will appear in Haiwaan, directed by Priyadarshan, where he reunites with Akshay Kumar.
As Saif continues to balance a long and evolving career with family life, his candid reflections highlight how even seasoned actors navigate the ongoing challenge of finding equilibrium between personal and professional worlds.
