Runway 34 actor-director Ajay Devgn talks about shooting in cramped spaces like the cockpit

Ajay Devgn is known to have a keen eye for powerful content and creating entertaining cinematic experiences for audiences. His next Runway 34 is yet another attempt by the director to transport audiences to a historic flight ride ever taken. The film set inside an aircraft and later a courtroom, also stars Amitabh Bachchan, Rakul Preet Singh, and Boman Irani in pivotal roles.

Currently, the team is promoting the film by sharing details about the film with their 34-second video series. In one of the latest videos, actor, and director Ajay Devgn spoke about shooting in cramped places, like the cockpit and inside the aircraft. “We use multiple cameras to capture expressions of fear and anxiety,” he is heard saying in the video.

Talking about how the special journey of Runway34 began Ajay Devgn shares, "Two years ago, barely a month into the pandemic, when things seemed to be going slow, the writer-duo Sandeep Kewlani and Aamil Keeyan Khan narrated the script of Runway 34 to me. I liked the script but I wanted certain changes. As promised, they worked on it during the lockdown and came back to me with a refreshed version. What I heard, I liked. The script is inspired by true events and they had made some changes for the big-screen adaptation. The first half has an element of thrill that the audience must experience. In fact, each and every one of us will identify with the turbulence and that hollow feeling in the stomach when a flight hits an air pocket. I can't tell you more because it's a thriller and must be experienced. Coming back to the script, Sandeep and Aamil had brought in the excitement and the drama. Then we worked on the script for another four months with my regular input. I was happy with the end result and also absolutely drawn to it. I decided this would be my third directorial. In December 2020, we launched the film and started to shoot it as soon as the lockdown was partially withdrawn. Here we are today with a film that I am truly proud to represent."

Inspired by true incidents, Runway 34 revolves around Captain Vikrant Khanna played by Ajay Devgn, a flying prodigy, whose flight takes a mysterious course after take-off from an international destination. With the thrill of the unknown in the sky, this film showcases Ajay locking horns with the legend of Indian cinema, Amitabh Bachchan; whom he has directed for the first time. The film also features Rakul Preet Singh, as a co-pilot, in a never-seen-before role.
