Filmmaker Rohit Shetty recently shared insights into the creation of the chartbuster track ‘Lungi Dance’ from Shah Rukh Khan's blockbuster film, Chennai Express. The director revealed that the song was a spontaneous addition to the film, approved after a special request and a lyric change.

According to Shetty, the inception of ‘Lungi Dance’ happened at the eleventh hour and was not initially part of the movie. In an interview with ANI, he narrated the sequence of events, stating that Yo Yo Honey Singh, the composer of the track, played it for Shah Rukh Khan, who then approached Shetty for his opinion. Impressed with the composition, Shetty agreed to include the song but with a specific condition.

"The only thing I had requested Honey back then, because of my audience, was to change the line 'Coconut mein Vodka mila ke,' I didn't want that," said Shetty. Honey Singh promptly revised the contentious lyric to ‘Coconut mein lassi mila ke’ and humorously remarked, "Main isse zyada shareef nahi ho sakta aapke liye!"

Shetty reflected on this incident, stating that the altered lyrics worked well, making the song an instant favourite among children – a demographic he was keen on engaging with the Shah Rukh Khan-Deepika Padukone starrer. He added, “Even Shah Rukh has that family audience. All his films are loved by families. I am particular that my films should be enjoyed by families. So even in my OTT show, there is no nudity, or sex scenes. There are two abuses that are also said by the cops.”

For the unversed, Rohit has made his OTT debut with the Prim Video series Indian Police Force. The web-show stars Sidharth Malhotra, Shilpa Shetty and Vivek Oberoi. It started streaming from January 19.
