The Cannes Film Festival held a position of great prestige and acclaim as one of the foremost and celebrated events in the global film industry. It serves as a prominent platform that brings together filmmakers, actors, producers, distributors, and critics from all corners of the world. The presence of Bollywood celebrities at the festival has garnered substantial attention, with their stunning appearances becoming the subject of much discussion. Their fashion choices and outfits have captured the spotlight, leading many to assert that Cannes has become synonymous with fashion rather than its primary focus on films. The festival's association with extravagant attire and high-profile style has become a notable aspect that garners significant interest and conversation.
Richa Chadha adds her voice to the Films vs Fashion debate at Cannes; says, “Don’t shit on anyone please”
Richa Chadha has established herself as a fearless and outspoken individual, unafraid to express her opinions openly. Twitter and social media has been ablaze with multiple opinions on whether fashion should be the focal point of a film festival. Richa took to her social media and shared old pictures from her 2015 visit to Cannes, Richa wrote on her Instagram Stories, “There’s a lot of chatter on social media about Cannes, Fashion, film etc. Just wanna say, don’t shit on anyone please. People are excited to be here, I notice the ones that are thanking brands/designers/ alcohol labels that are bringing their influencers here. It’s a gear venue for marketing no? Let them be. You will notice most people say they’re at the red carpet but won’t specify the film. Well, they’re not here with a film or for a film.”
She further added, “Having said that, should you be so lucky to get to work on a film that ends up at Cannes… It's the best feeling in the world. It’s after all a FILM FESTIVAL, no matter what anyone says. And as an artist, there’s no greater joy and contentment than a 7 min long standing ovation (Richa said in reference to Masaan getting this honour).”
For the unversed, Richa has earlier attended the Cannes Film Festival for Masaan and Gangs of Wasseypur. Richa and Ali are attending Cannes this time as producers for their film Girls Will Be Girls. Apart from this, the duo had come on board as producers for their next, The Underbug. The film premiered at the Slamdance Film Festival in Los Angeles. It is their second production under Pushing Buttons Studios.
