Raveena Tandon is one of the popular actresses who ruled the roost in the 90s and continues to shine with her work in today’s times. She is the daughter of producer Ravi Tandon and Veena Tandon and for the first time, her mother gave an interview and opened up like never before.

As part of the Mother’s Day celebrations, HT City spoke to Veena Tandon, who’ll turn 82 years old on May 13. She began by talking about her beginnings, that she was educated at Cathedral & John Connon School and SNDT College in Mumbai. She revealed that her mother died at a young age and hence, she grew up with her father and also her sister who was in Dehradun.

After completing college, she got married to Ravi Tandon. She said in the interview, “I was very happy being in the background and being a force for my husband. He was busy throughout the day, so I had to take care of both our kids — taking them to school, getting them back and raising them well. My husband used to have two three shifts in a day. I did the best I could.”

She also confessed that she never attended any film party and that “I would always be away, along with our kids. I kept them away from all this.”

When asked how Raveena Tandon then ended up becoming an actor, Veena revealed, “She was not interested in films, but when she got Patthar Ke Phool (1991) with Salman Khan, her friends said, ‘Arey, Salman ke saath film hai, karo-karo.’”

Patthar Ke Phool was a hit and made Raveena Tandon a household name. She won the Filmfare Award for Lux New Face of the Year for this film.

Raveena Tandon spoke highly of her mother in the interview saying, “If my dad was my emotion, my mum is my strength. As a kid, I would always tag along with her as she was heavily into social work and collecting funds. When I decided to (adopt) my two young girls at 21, my mum took care of them when I was away shooting. I have absorbed the strength from her.”
