Aamir Khan recently shared a fun and unexpected revelation about his film Awwal Number, revealing that actor Ranbir Kapoor is a huge fan of the movie. In an interview with BBC Asian Network, Aamir spoke candidly about some of his films, including Ishq, and shared surprising details about Ranbir’s admiration for Awwal Number—a film Aamir himself doesn’t hold in high regard.

When asked about his 1997 film Ishq, Aamir admitted that it’s not one of his favourite films. While the movie, which also stars Ajay Devgn, Kajol, and Juhi Chawla, was commercially successful and enjoyed by audiences, Aamir confessed, “That’s not one of my favourite films, actually. It was fun to do that film, and I am glad people enjoyed watching it. It was very successful, but not one of my favorite films, I would say.”

Aamir further added, “It is very strange but some of my films that I don’t like very much, I find that some people really love them.”

In the same interview, Aamir shared a fun and personal story about his conversation with Ranbir Kapoor, who revealed that Awwal Number is one of his favourite films. Aamir found it surprising, especially considering his own feelings about the movie. “For example, Ranbir is a huge fan of Awwal Number. I have been a great fan of Dev sahab, but I am not very happy with that film. But at first, I thought that Ranbir is pulling my leg. I said, ‘Come on, don’t pull my leg.’ But then he started narrating each scene and each and every dialogue of the film to me. He said, ‘You don’t understand, I was a small kid when I was watching this film. In my eyes, this film is one of my favourite films’. I was like, ‘Okay, what can I say?’”

When asked to pick his favourite film from his extensive career, Aamir found it difficult to choose, given the variety and significance of his body of work. However, he shared that there are a few films he is particularly proud of. “It is very difficult for me to choose, but there are some I am really happy about. One of them is Taare Zameen Par, 3 Idiots. I also love Lagaan, and Dangal is a great film. Even PK, Ghajini, and Jo Jeeta Wohi Sikandar, all these are difficult films to choose from.”

Currently, Aamir Khan is focused on promoting Laapataa Ladies, which is India’s official entry for the Oscars 2025. The film, which premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) last year, was released in theatres before gaining widespread acclaim on Netflix. While it performed decently at the box office, the film found more recognition and appreciation once it started streaming, further cementing Aamir’s commitment to supporting meaningful storytelling.
