Rakul Preet Singh says actors should trust their own judgement over entourage advice: “Do what you feel is right”

en Bollywood News Rakul Preet Singh says actors should trust their own judgement over entourage advice: “Do what you feel is right”

Rakul Preet Singh agrees that actors' entourages can fuel their fears, emphasizing the importance of critical thinking and self-judgment.

Rakul Preet Singh, recognized for her roles in both Hindi and Telugu films, discussed the need for resilience in the film industry, particularly given the constant stream of advice from various sources, including an actor's entourage. On the Beer Biceps podcast, she reflected on filmmaker Rohit Shetty's observation about the difficulties of producing multi-starrer films, noting that younger actors are often significantly influenced by their entourages.

Rakul Preet Singh says actors should trust their own judgement over entourage advice: “Do what you feel is right”

When questioned if actors' fears are fuelled by their entourages, Rakul agreed and said, “Yes, you’re right. You’ve to be silly to believe everything you hear. A lot of people will give you several advices, but you’ve to use your own mind. What Rohit sir said is probably right. In South, the old school single manager system is still in place. They don’t have a huge entourage; you don’t have 10 people telling you what’s good for your positioning or what’s not.”

She emphasised the need of respecting advice but ultimately trusting one's own judgement. She said, “It’s important to listen and respect them. They know what they’re saying but do what you feel is right. As an actor, your actions will go out in the public, so you’ve to be responsible for yourself.”

Rakul also mentioned her close relationship with her staff, which she cherishes for reasons other than professional guidance, bonding with them over meals and exercises rather than gossiping. “You are who you surround yourself with. You spend more time with your core team—hair and makeup, spot boy—so it’s important to know what energy they carry. I don’t want to listen to gossip at 7 in the morning, I’m not interested in knowing about someone else’s life,” she explained.

Looking back on her Bollywood career, Rakul, who debuted in Hindi cinema with Yaariyaan in 2014, acknowledged the distinct challenges of the industry. She pointed out that working in Mumbai entails navigating issues related to "PR, visibility, positioning, and brands," which she gradually came to understand.

She recalled an eye-opening incident from her early career, she stated, “I didn’t know during promotions that I had to get a stylist. I learnt that right before my promotions were starting and I thought, ‘My God this is so expensive!’ This is 12 years ago. Stylists are expensive, they can range anywhere between Rs 15,000 to a lakh for one event, one outfit. You learn from all these things.”

Rakul Preet Singh will soon appear in the highly anticipated sequel De De Pyaar De 2, opposite Ajay Devgn.
