In a recent interview, Rakul spoke candidly about her initial years in the city. She recalled arriving in Mumbai with limited knowledge about the film industry but an unwavering belief in herself. “I was very naive when I moved to Mumbai. I still think I’m a bit naive, but at that time I truly had no information. Sometimes not knowing too much is actually bliss. I used to think very simply: I’ll work hard, I’ll audition, and then I’ll get the role. I always had that confidence — I was my favourite,” she said with a smile.

She went on to explain how her optimism pushed her through the uncertainties of the early days. “I used to tell myself that I would debut with a good production. I knew that if acting didn’t work out, I would study further. But whatever I did, I wanted to give it my best. Since I didn’t know much about the industry, my thoughts were straightforward: I’ll go to Mumbai, call people, and look for opportunities.”

Rakul also spoke about the persistence that became her biggest strength as a newcomer. “I used to call casting directors repeatedly — sometimes a hundred times — until they finally took notice or wondered why the number wasn’t disconnecting. I wasn’t shy because they didn’t know me yet. I had to put in ten times more effort for them to recognise me. All I wanted was one meeting or one chance to audition,” she shared.

Today, as Rakul enjoys her well-earned success, she continues to focus on expanding her filmography with diverse and exciting projects. She is currently preparing for Pati Patni Aur Woh 2, which is expected to showcase yet another refreshing performance from the actor.
