Actor Rajeev Khandelwal recently spoke about staying true to his principles in an industry where compromises are often expected. In an interview with a media portal, the actor reflected on a past disagreement with a producer and said he refused to accept what he felt was unfair treatment, even if it meant losing opportunities.
Recalling the incident, Rajeev said, “I made the producer reach out to me because he had no other option; he was in the wrong.” He added that such situations often come with emotional pressure, where actors are made to feel responsible for other people’s livelihood. “…he is seeking favors from me. You all are telling me that your jobs are at risk because they have breached the agreement.” he said.
The actor also spoke about how early career success does not mean an individual should remain dependent on others for validation. “You may have made me a significant name in the industry. I might not seek validation from the world,” he stated, stressing that self-worth should not come from external approval. Rajeev further revisited his decision to leave the popular show Kahiin To Hoga, a move that had sparked major criticism at the time. He recalled how people labelled it “suicide” and believed the reactions came from a place of insecurity. “Back then, there was no social media, perhaps it was their own insecurities they were projecting onto me,” he said.
In a separate interview, the actor also addressed his cautious approach towards social media, explaining why he avoids chasing digital popularity. Rajeev remarked that if one becomes too dependent on online attention, “You gradually become a parasite.”
While he does use social platforms occasionally, Rajeev made it clear he prefers to keep boundaries intact, choosing substance over visibility and focusing on his craft rather than online validation.
