Actor Rahul Bhat has spoken about the strong audience reaction to his film Kennedy, revealing that a screening in Kolkata saw such a large turnout that authorities had to resort to crowd control measures.
Directed by Anurag Kashyap, Kennedy is a noir thriller that follows the life of a presumed-dead cop navigating isolation, violence and moral dilemmas. The film, which is currently streaming on ZEE5, has received critical attention for its moody storytelling and understated performances.
Rahul Bhat, who plays the titular character, described the reaction in Kolkata as particularly intense. Elaborating on the experience, he said, “The response in Kolkata was absolutely overwhelming. So many people turned up to watch the film that the situation went out of control, and there was even a lathi charge outside the venue. It just showed the kind of excitement and curiosity audiences had for the film, the energy was unbelievable.”
The actor’s portrayal in Kennedy has been noted for its restraint and internalised intensity, aligning with the film’s sombre tone. Reflecting more broadly on audience appreciation, Rahul has previously indicated that for performers, genuine engagement often carries greater meaning than commercial metrics.
