Radhikka Madan, having worked in several Bollywood films, acknowledges the prevalence of nepotism in the industry. Speaking on the issue, she remarked that actors with industry connections often get multiple chances to hone their skills, whereas outsiders like herself are dropped from projects after their first mistake.
Radhikka Madan, known for films like Angrezi Medium and Sarfira, began her acting journey in 2018 with Pataakha. In a conversation with Shubhankar Mishra, she openly discussed nepotism in the Hindi film industry, acknowledging its presence just like in other fields. She pointed out that star kids often get 2-3 films to improve, even if their debut performance isn't strong. She said, “Unko seekhane k liye 2-3 filmein aur mil jaati hai ki ‘Abhi seekh jaega, arey dekho improvement hai’.”
However, that's not true for someone like her who lacks connections or family in the industry. Madan noted that for such individuals, filmmakers often say, “‘You can't act; we gave you a opportunity, you're out.’” This leads them to feel it's a matter of life and death, forcing them to develop survival instincts.
She stated, “I'll be removed after one mistake; I won’t have the opportunity to learn acting through multiple films,” adding that outsiders like her are expected to arrive on set only after mastering their craft. In contrast, insiders are viewed as hardworking and are given the chance to improve in subsequent films. She feels this discrepancy is unfair. While she acknowledges that such dynamics exist in every industry, she can't deny this reality about Bollywood.
