A R Rahman gets a street named after him; shares photos on social media : Bollywood News

A R Rahman has made our country proud several times by winning multiple prestigious awards including at the Oscars, where received a special honour. With the kind of global fame and success, the singer-musician has garnered, he has now got a street named after him. A street in the Canadian city of Markham is being named as A.R. Rahman (Allah Rakha Rahman). Photos of the same were shared by Rahman on his Instagram account.

A R Rahman shared a series of photos from the street inauguration ceremony where he is seen posing with the Mayor of Markham, Frank Scarpitti. Sharing it, he captioned the same, saying, “Honoured and grateful for this recognition from @cityofmarkham and the people of Canada ???????? ???????? EPI #arrahmanstreet #markham #canada #celebratingdiversity #infinitelovearr.”

Rahman expressed his happiness over receiving the honour in a statement that he posted on social media. He said, “I never imagined this ever in my life. I am very grateful to all of you, the Mayor of Markham, Canada (Frank Scarpitti) and counsellors, Indian Consulate General (Apoorva Srivastava) and the people of Canada. The name A.R. Rahman is not mine. It means merciful. Merciful is the quality of the common God we all have and one can only be the servant of merciful. So let that name bring peace, prosperity, happiness and health to all the people living in Canada. God bless you all.”

“I want to thank my brothers and sisters of India for all the love. All the creative people who worked with me, who gave me the inspiration to rise up and celebrate hundred years of cinema; with all the legends included. I am a very small drop in the ocean. I feel like this gives me immense responsibility to do much more and be inspiring; not to get tired and not to retire… yet. Even if I get tired I’ll remember that I have more things to do, more people to connect, more bridges to cross,” he concluded.
