Popular television producer Sandiip Sikcand, who is known for shows like Kahaan Hum Kahaan Tum and the recent Bohot Pyaar Karte Hai, opened up about the need for change in television content. While his shows have always attempted to retain a different topic, his recent show starring Karan Grover and Sayali Salunke wrapped up within 150 episodes. Pushing for a change in the world of television, Sandiip Sikcand urged television filmmakers to change the stereotype associated with television by making novel content away from the usual drama.

Readers would be aware that television is known for its saas-bahu drama and often looked down up because of its content revolving around unrealistic plots and unnecessary drama. Addressing the major problem that television industry, Sandiip Sikcand said, “We don’t tell enough stories. All our stories are about the same ‘innocent girls’ marrying into a big wealthy family and how she is the perfect girl. Along with the same story, every show, every formula used is the same. It feels like the background is the only thing that changes. I think we need to experiment.”

Not only did he open up about the kind of treatment television receives but he also asserted that the reason is television itself as audiences face lack of choices when it comes to TV. “TV is never spoken about as highly. It has a stepchild treatment and I feel somewhere we are also responsible for it,” he added. He went on to say, “I do not think TV is any less but the only issue is that we don’t experiment with content, so we lag behind a little. Also, TV lacks acknowledgement which we need to work on as a community. We need to grow and experiment and learn and unlearn and make TV the medium to entertain beyond the 80s and 90s storytelling. We need to help TV grow and need to be in sync with the today’s changing times.”
