Actor Priyanka Chopra Jonas has opened up about the circumstances that led to her shifting focus from Bollywood to Hollywood, explaining that her decision was driven by a desire to explore new opportunities and avoid remaining in an uncomfortable professional situation.
Speaking on the Not Skinny But Not Fat podcast, Chopra reflected on her early years in the film industry after winning the Miss World 2000 title. She recalled that one of her earliest experiences of working in films came with the Tamil movie Thamizhan, where she starred opposite Vijay. According to Chopra, witnessing the massive crowds that gathered for the actor gave her an early glimpse into the scale of stardom in Indian cinema.
Talking about her later career decisions, the actor said she prefers to move on rather than remain in situations that feel limiting. “I’m someone who doesn’t like staying in the s*** because you get used to the smell,” she said during the conversation, while explaining her approach to difficult phases in life. Chopra clarified that the decision to pursue opportunities abroad was not about rejecting Bollywood, but about expanding her career. In earlier interviews, she has said that she felt “pushed into a corner” within the industry due to limited opportunities and internal politics, which eventually motivated her to explore work in the United States.
Her move to international projects began with her music career, including collaborations with global artists such as Pitbull and will.i.am, before she transitioned to acting in American television and films. She later gained global recognition through the series Quantico, which premiered in 2015 and marked her breakthrough in Hollywood.
Over the years, Chopra has continued to balance work across industries while maintaining strong ties with India. The actor has previously said that she never intended to completely leave Bollywood and remains open to returning for projects that excite her creatively.
