Priyanka Chopra Jonas attends UN General Assembly; says, ‘Global solidarity more important than ever’ : Bollywood News

Actress Priyanka Chopra attended The United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) on Monday as a representative of UNICEF. In the opening of her speech, the global star said that it is important for the leaders to come together to safeguard the “foundation of a just world that we fought for”. She then went on to add that even though “all is not well” with the world, there is a plan that can fix it - “UN Sustainable Development Goals”.

While sharing some inside images and a video of her speech through her social media handle, Chopra offered some highlights of the conference. During the event, the Baywatch actress weighed in on some of the world's most pressing issues such as the COVID-19 pandemic, climate crisis and poverty.

In the video clip she can be heard saying, “We meet today at a critical point at our world, at a time when global solidarity is more important as countries continue to struggle from the devastating effects of the COVID-19, as the climate crisis affects lives, as conflicts rage; as poverty, displacement, hunger and inequalities destroy the very foundation of a just world that we fought for, for such a long time.”

On the other hand, while talking about how education has been a challenge for girls in India as well as in different parts of the world, she said, "I strongly believe that education is just the cornerstone of equality, social justice, social change and democracy."

Meanwhile, in the photos, Chopra can be seen posing with Malala Yousafzai, Amanda Gorman and others. A part of her lengthy caption read, “Walking through the gates of the United Nations this morning to speak at UNGA for the second time”.

For the unversed, the 40-year-old actress, who is the UNICEF global goodwill ambassador, has been working with the organisation for more than a decade now.
