By now, we all know that Priyanka Chopra is playing a rough and tough Superintendent of Police Abha Mathur in Prakash Jha’s most-awaited film Jai Gangaajal (previously known as Gangajal 2). We, at Bollywood Hungama
had brought to you the first look of the same. Now, we bring to you a brand new poster of the film, but, with a change in the title.
For all those who are wondering about the sudden change of title from Gangajal 2 to Jai Gangajal, here’s the reason. Because of emotional and personal reasons towards Manmohan Shetty (he helped him to stay at his house when came to Mumbai), he always had immense respect for him. That’s why, when he made Gangaajal, he made (written – directed) it under the banner of Manmohan Shetty’s Entertainment One India Limited in 2003. Because of his relations with Manmohan Shetty, he just did not worry about the film’s rights. About a year back, Prakash Jha announced Gangaajal 2 with Priyanka Chopra in the lead. But, recently, when the film’s release just around the corner, he faced a roadblock with Reliance Big Entertainment Pvt Ltd along with Phantom Films Pvt Ltd, claiming the ownership of GangaaJal as Manmohan Shetty’s company had sold all its rights to Reliance, who, further tied up with Phantom for their films. They also sent a legal notice to Prakash Jha about the title. Thus, was born the new title of the film as Jai GangaaJal. Needless to say, Prakash Jha was totally shocked because of all this. Reasoning the name change, Prakash Jha said that, despite not having anything to do with the film, they (Reliance Big Entertainment Pvt Ltd and Phantom) wanted a share of the profits. He also reasoned that, by no means Jai GangaJal is a sequel of Gangaajal.
News reports state that the story of Jai Gangaajal is all about revisiting the dusty heartland of North India, and examining again the society-police relationship to tell a new story. Priyanka Chopra aka SP Abha Mathur gets posted in the district solely because she is a woman, who, as per the notorious characters in the film, could be easily manipulated and thus, not disturb the entrenched nexus of the town.
Speaking about the film, Prakash Jha said “Much has changed in the last 13 years. When I made Gangaajal 13 years ago, the dictum was that every society gets police that it deserves. But the scenario has changed since then. Today, the cops follow the dictum of inaction is virtue and efficiency is crime.”
Meanwhile, Priyanka Chopra tweeted “So proud! Thank you @prakashjha27 for giving me ‘Jai Gangajaal’! In theatres on March 4, 2016 – over to u guys!”
Besides Priyanka Chopra, Jai Gangaajal also stars Manav Kaul, Rahul Bhat, Murli Sharma and Ninand Kamath. The film has been written and directed by Prakash Jha and has been produced by Prakash Jha Productions and Play Entertainment. Jai Gangajal is being readied for a March 4, 2016 release worldwide.
