Veteran actor Shatrughan Sinha recently opened up about a hilarious misunderstanding that arose after the birth of his daughter, Sonakshi Sinha. Speaking at Sahitya AajTak 2024, the actor revealed how his wife, Poonam Sinha, initially thought he was unhappy with the birth of a girl due to his appearance.

Shatrughan was filming in West Bengal when Sonakshi was born in 1987. He was portraying a "chandal" character in Goutam Ghose's film Antarjali Jatra, requiring him to wear a long beard and muddied attire. The veteran actor recalled, “After the climax was shot, Goutam came to me with the good news. He broke the news that we were blessed with a baby girl. I was still covered in mud, sporting a long beard. That is how I was supposed to look. I somehow reached Kolkata (then Calcutta) and managed to reach Mumbai to see my bundle of joy.”

Upon arrival at the hospital, Poonam mistook Shatrughan's film makeup for displeasure with having a daughter. "Pura filmy scene ho gaya tha!" (It became a whole Bollywood scene!), exclaimed the actor. He quickly clarified that he was overjoyed about Sonakshi's arrival and had wished for a daughter after the birth of his twin sons, Luv and Kush.

The Member of Parliament, Lok Sabha from Asansol constituency, explained further, “Hum bahot khush the (I was very happy). I had been praying for my daughter for quite some time. After the birth of twins — Luv and Kush — I wanted a daughter. I explained to her that I arrived directly from the film’s set and didn’t grow facial hair because I was unhappy.”

For the unversed, Shatrughan tied the knot with the former Miss India in 1980. Three years later they welcomed twins - Luv and Kush, followed by daughter Sonakshi Sinha in 1987. While his sons stay away from the limelight, Sonakshi is active in the film industry.
