Pankaj Tripathi, who isn’t seen much these days because he has cut down on his projects, is gearing up for the biopic of the former Indian Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee in Ravi Jadhav’s Main Atal Hoon. Although Tripathi’s profession is way different than Vajpayee’s, he realized while working on the film that he shares a common interest with the former PM.
Sharing the same, Tripathi said in a statement, “During my research for the movie Main Atal Hoon, I found out, and it’s also widely known, that apart from politics and diplomacy, Atal ji was a great poet and had an immense love and attachment towards literature and language too. Through my research I find out he used to do poetry to convey his state of mind.”
The actor added, “I could relate to that because good poetry has a deep effect on me too, especially Hindi poetry. I grew up reading some of the great writers and sometimes being inspired by them, I scribble a few lines in the form of poems too. It was nice to know that there are poems and poets that Atal ji and I commonly like.”
In 2002, Vajpayee’s poems were used as songs in the music album Samvedna by the late great ghazal artiste Jagjit Singh. The video of the song ‘Kya Khoya Kya Paya’ from the same album was directed by the late Yash Chopra and it starred Shah Rukh Khan.
Interestingly, Main Atal Hoon isn’t the only film this year that will portray the character of Vajpayee on celluloid. Shreyas Talpade will be playing the same character in Kangana Ranaut’s Emergency.
Apart from Main Atal Hoon, Tripathi also has OMG 2 and Fukrey 3 in the pipeline.
