Amid the patriotic fervor surrounding the teaser launch of Border 2, Pakistani actor Shaan Shahid has sparked controversy by taking a jibe at Sunny Deol's iconic "Lahore tak" dialogue from the original 1997 film. An Instagram page shared a screenshot purportedly from Shahid's account—banned in India—where he taunted, “Kehta hai awaaz Lhr tak jani chahiye.. Ji ap kai rafale girnay ki awaaz Lhr tak aye thi,” alongside the hashtag #OperationBunyanalMarsoos, referencing Pakistan's claimed downing of six Indian Rafale jets during the brief May 2025 conflict.

The Border 2 teaser, unveiled recently, recreates Sunny Deol's hard-hitting line, with director Anurag Singh crediting Varun Dhawan for insisting on its inclusion to honor the original's legacy. The sequel pays tribute to the 1971 war heroes, featuring Dhawan alongside Deol, and has generated massive buzz for its high-stakes action and emotional resonance. Singh revealed Dhawan's passion ensured the dialogue retained its punch, amplifying nationalistic sentiments.
Shahid's comment alludes to Operation Bunyan al-Marsoos, Pakistan's military offensive in May 2025 amid escalating India-Pakistan tensions. Launched in response to alleged Indian actions, it involved missile strikes on Indian bases and intense LoC shelling, with Pakistan claiming to have downed six Rafale jets. The operation led to a swift ceasefire, averting full-scale war between the nuclear-armed neighbors, but remains a sore point in bilateral relations. Fans of Border 2 dismissed the taunt as sour grapes, while Pakistani netizens amplified it as a "facts check."
Speaking of the film, it is schedule to release on January 23, 2026.
