With the trailer of Dangal hitting the tube, the film has obviously gained attention not just for Aamir Khan and his transformation but also for the portrayal of strong female protagonists. On the other hand, yet another film on wrestling, Sultan is going places and winning at film festivals. It is a known fact that both films are ruled by a stellar cast and is based on the same subject, wrestling. Considering that the two of them even were announced for the same year, one often wondered about how Nitesh Tiwari and Ali Abbas Zafar dealt with situation.
Talking about his forthcoming film Dangal, filmmaker Nitesh Tiwari maintained that Ali Abbas Zafar came to meet him before Sultan in order to avoid any kind of resemblance. While the two were already aware that the subjects they are dealing with may be the same, their storyline differed completely. For the uninitiated, Dangal is inspired by the real life story of wrestler Mahavir Phogat whereas Sultan was a work of fiction. Not only did the duo discuss the story but they also concluded that their stories weren’t overlapping at all.
Impressed with the way Ali dealt with the situation, Nitesh reportedly also added that he was thrilled to see such a filmmaker in a competitive world where he was not only concerned about his own film but also Dangal. Though they were ready to make amendments in case it was necessary, it seems that it wasn’t required at all, according to Nitesh. The filmmaker also further stated that irrespective of whichever film would have released earlier, considering the fan following that Aamir Khan and Salman Khan share, both the films have the potential to be blockbusters.
Sultan released on July 6 during the occasion of Eid, while, Dangal which has been in the making for over two years, is slated to release on December 23, during the occasion of Christmas.
