Kiran Rao’s latest directorial, Laapataa Ladies, has captured hearts and significantly boosted the careers of its cast. Among the rising stars is 16-year-old Nitanshi Goel, who plays Phool Kumari. In a recent interview with Ranveer Allahbadia, Nitanshi revealed the immense sacrifices her parents made to help her pursue acting, showcasing their unwavering support and love.
Nitanshi shared that her father left his business in Noida, and her mother quit a government job to relocate to Mumbai for her acting career. “I just wanted to act and be on TV, and with just that little thought, my father left his business in Noida and he’s here doing a job. My mom left her government job and she’s here for me. All of this was just because I wanted to be an actor,” Nitanshi said, emphasizing the true, selfless love her parents have shown.
Despite her rising fame, Nitanshi remains grounded and deeply grateful for her parents' sacrifices. She expressed that their love means more to her than typical teenage experiences, including having a crush. Reflecting on the attention she receives, she shared with amusement how fans, especially after her film’s hit song ‘O Sajni’, have been showering her with affectionate nicknames and creating National Crush video edits. “They’re calling me cute names, Phool Kumari, Sajni; they also make National Crush video edits. This is flattering; I love it! I’m enjoying it; it’s cute!” she said.
Laapataa Ladies, which started streaming on Netflix a month ago, has also been running in theatres for over 100 days. Its enduring popularity is convincing theatre owners to keep showing it. The film also stars Ravi Kishan, Pratibha Ranta, Sparsh Shrivastava, and Chhaya Kadam in key roles, adding to its widespread appeal.
Nitanshi’s journey has also impacted her academic life. She shared a heartwarming story about her teachers' reactions during her exams, where they expressed pride and admiration for her performance in the movie. “During the exam, a teacher came to me and said, ‘You’ve done such good work!’ The invigilator, who was there, said, ‘Let her complete her exam, then we all will get a chance to talk to her, click selfies with her, and tell her how good she was.’ They all have rooted for me,” she recounted.
Currently in standard 12th with commerce as her stream, Nitanshi will be taking her board exams in 2025. Her story is a testament to the power of family support and the extraordinary lengths parents will go to help their children achieve their dreams.
