Nishi Saxena resonates with her character Dimpy in Anupama; says, “Like her, I have also faced many obstacles in my life”

Nishi Saxena also revealed that her favourite track from the show by far is her own introduction which was a powerful sequence of her playing a rape survivor.

Nishi Saxena is currently seen as Dimpy Shah in Star Plus Anupama starring Rupali Ganguly, Gaurav Khanna, and Sudhanshu Pandey in the lead. The actress had made a shocking entry in the show and later, became the wife of Anupama and Vanraj’s youngest son Samar. However with the passing of the latter, she has now assumed the role which Anupama once had in the Shah household. The character of Dimpy has witnessed several lows in her life and much like her, Nishi reveals that she too has faced many difficulties in her life which is why she was able to build a connection with her.

Comparing herself to her onscreen character Dimpy, Nishi Saxena said, “I find a significant connection to my character in the show, particularly when it comes to her determination to overcome challenges and to pursue her dreams. Like my character, I have also faced many obstacles in my life, when it comes to my career because it’s not easy for parents and society to allow girls to pursue a career in acting. I had to convince a lot of people because my parents were still very okay, but a lot of my relatives were like, ‘What will you do in Mumbai? It's a very hard city.’ But still, when I came to Mumbai, I overcame those challenges.”

However, she also maintained that there are differences too between her real and reel self, especially with their backgrounds and circumstances. “So to prepare myself for the role, I may not relate to every aspect of the character, and therefore I bring my own experiences and understanding of human nature to add that depth into the portrayal of my character,” she shared.

Coming to her show, Nishi also addressed the five-year leap that the show took earlier this year and stated that has added a lot of freshness, and the audience is liking it. She continued, “I'm getting very positive feedback. The new kids and the whole America thing are very fresh, and people have become more interested in the show. And I have to comment on the creative team, and the set designers of Anupama, I think they have done a wonderful job. You cannot tell when you watch an episode that this is not real America, this is a set. I think it was a team effort, and everyone did a fantastic job, and I hope and pray that the show remains at the top forever.”

While she started off as a temporary character, Nishi as Dimpy became a prominent character and has now been a part of the show for many months. Despite being a part of a multitude of events that transpired in the Star Plus show, her favourite track continues to be her own introduction. “It was the rape sequence, and it is the best to date. The makers had written it so beautifully, and I think I also did a very good job in that particular scene. I was new to the show then, but I could feel everything in my bones,” she mentioned.

She also recalled another episode where her character, along with Anupama and Anuj, went to the police station for the first time and reported the rape. She added, “Anupama and Dimpy had a heartfelt conversation then, and she told me, ‘What you have done today, I think every woman should get inspired by this, and they should learn that if women will not stand up for themselves, no one will.’ So that whole scene, and the whole track touched mine and the audience’s hearts.”
