Actor Neil Nitin Mukesh recently shared a surprising incident from his time filming the 2009 thriller New York, co-starring Katrina Kaif and John Abraham. During an interview with Mashable India, he revealed that he was detained at a New York airport after officials refused to believe he was Indian. The incident, which lasted nearly four hours, became a major talking point at the time.
A Shocking Detention Experience
Neil recounted how airport officials questioned his identity, despite him holding an Indian passport. "They refused to believe that I had an Indian passport and that I was Indian. So it became quite big news that I was detained. They didn’t even let me answer or say anything for myself," he said. The situation escalated until the officials finally asked him to prove his identity.
‘Just Google Me’ – Neil’s Response
After hours of questioning, Neil told the officials, "Just Google me." This led to a quick resolution, as they discovered his background as an actor and his family’s legacy in the Indian music industry. "They were so embarrassed that they started questioning me about my legacy, my grandfather, and my father," he added. Neil is the son of playback singer Nitin Mukesh and the grandson of legendary singer Mukesh.

Neil made his acting debut as a child artist in the 1988 film Vijay and later appeared in Jaisi Karni Waisi Bharnii. He gained recognition as a lead actor with the 2007 film Johnny Gaddaar.
