The Film Heritage Foundation presented with the Lifetime Achievement Award for Cinema Projection last evening at the iconic Regal cinema in Mumbai. Mohammed Aslam Fakih, PA Salam and Lakhan Lal Yadav, the three projectionists with over 50 years of experience in film projection, were presented the awards by the veteran actor Naseeruddin Shah in presence of the founder and director of Film Heritage Foundation, Shivendra Singh Dungarpur.

While speaking at the event, Naseeruddin Shah didn’t mince his words while speaking on how the workers who work behind the scenes are underpaid. “The bitter truth is that those who work the hardest while making a film, their renumeration is the lowest. They stand in water till their waist and look after the broken electric wires. They carry reflectors. They carry bags on their shoulders and climb on the top and remain there throughout the day; nobody asks them for water or tea. Their payment is one thousandth of those who sit on chairs under the fan while having sherbat and show attitude,” said the actor.

He added, “The sad part is that this saga doesn’t end with the completion of the film. When the film gets completed and if it becomes successful, toh iski asli malaai distributors aur exhibitors naam ka darinde kha jaate hain (a large share of it is taken away by the demons called distributors and exhibitors). And those who make our dreams come true, nobody knows them, and they are neither given respect or rewards.”

Hence, Shah was happy with the initiative of the Film Heritage Foundation and their idea of honouring the projectionists. “So, I am thankful to Shivendra Dungarpur and his team for their noble thought of showing respect to those who make our dreams come true,” said the actor.

On the work front, Shah was last seen in the web show Charlie Chopra & The Mystery Of Solang Valley.
