Veteran actor Nana Patekar, known for his powerful performances in films like Parinda, Krantiveer, and Welcome, is gearing up for his much-awaited return to the big screen with Vanvaas, which is set to release on December 20, 2024. The film promises to be a gripping tale, and Patekar’s role is expected to showcase his signature intensity and depth as an actor.
In an intimate conversation with his close friend and fellow actor, Anil Kapoor, Patekar shared his excitement about Vanvaas, shedding light on the film’s narrative and his character's journey. While details of the plot remain tightly under wraps, the film is said to explore themes of survival, redemption, and self-discovery, with Patekar playing a central, transformative role. Fans of the actor are eagerly awaiting his return, especially after his recent, somewhat selective appearances on screen.
Beyond discussing Vanvaas, Patekar also reflected on his career and personal experiences, offering a rare insight into his emotional journey. One of the most poignant moments in the conversation was when he opened up about the time he won the National Award for his role in Parinda (1989), a film that solidified his place as one of the industry’s finest actors. Despite his triumph, Patekar revealed that his mother had a rather negative reaction to the prestigious honor.
He said, “After my father passed away, my mother didn’t really concern herself with such matters. Whether I won an award or earned money, it made no difference to her because her entire world was my father.”
He added, “When I won the National Award, my mother didn’t quite understand its significance. She would say, 'They have no sense of whom to give an award to. Such dirty, despicable work doesn’t deserve an award.' Being from a rural background, she wasn’t connected to these things. However, my family never stopped me, never discouraged me.”
As Vanvaas prepares for its theatrical release this December, it marks yet another significant chapter in Patekar’s illustrious career. With his commanding screen presence and unmatched ability to portray complex characters, Vanvaas is expected to reaffirm why Nana Patekar remains one of the most respected actors in Indian cinema. Fans are eagerly awaiting the film, and Patekar’s heartfelt reflections make it clear that the journey has been as transformative for him as the characters he portrays on screen.
