Producer shares international perspective on Ranbir Kapoor-led epic as Yash joins him during global promotions.

As anticipation builds around Ramayana, producer Namit Malhotra has been actively engaging with international media, offering fresh insights into the ambitious mythological project. During a recent interaction with Fandango, Malhotra was joined by actor-producer Yash, who is set to portray Ravana in the two-part film directed by Nitesh Tiwari.

Speaking about the global appeal of the story, Malhotra highlighted an interesting perspective he encountered abroad. “What is interesting, and it was a perspective I actually heard from someone in America itself, it was like, you're bringing us the first story of the world or the first story of the universe, but it's something we don't know much about”.

He further elaborated on how this unfamiliarity adds a layer of novelty for international audiences. “So it's almost like you're telling us a timeless story, but it's actually, we're going to discover it for the first time. So there's a lot of freshness and excitement towards it. Obviously, every Indian, their heart beats with this story”.

For Indian audiences, however, the connection to the Ramayana remains deeply rooted in cultural memory. Reflecting on this, Malhotra said, “All of us, you know, our parents, our grandparents, you know, generations before us have all learned the Ramayana, heard the Ramayana, experienced it in various different forms. So it's very interesting to sort of bring something with that big screen spectacle, but with the heart that every Indian cares about to the world that I think is very, very relevant with all the other epics that you just mentioned, I think the world and the audiences in cinemas want to see something that is new and different. And, you know, the mindset is a lot more open to consume different types of stories”.

He also pointed to a broader shift in audience preferences. “I think we've all seen enough of the same fare. But I think now it's about what new can we bring”.

Backed by a large-scale vision, Ramayana features an ensemble cast led by Ranbir Kapoor as Ram, alongside Sai Pallavi as Sita and Ravi Dubey as Lakshman. The film also stars Sunny Deol as Hanuman, with Yash taking on the role of Ravana. The extended cast includes names like Amitabh Bachchan, Rakul Preet Singh, Lara Dutta, and Kajal Aggarwal.

Produced by Namit Malhotra and written by Shridhar Raghavan, the two-part epic is slated for a festive release, with the first installment arriving in cinemas during Diwali 2026, followed by the second part in Diwali 2027. With its blend of cultural legacy and global ambition, Ramayana is shaping up to be one of the most closely watched Indian film projects in the coming years.
