Mukesh Khanna’s iconic superhero Shaktimaan is making a comeback, not on screen but through sound. Pocket FM has launched Shaktimaan Returns, a 40-episode audio series that brings the beloved character back into the public imagination, with Khanna once again lending his voice and vision to the role.
At the heart of the revival is Khanna’s endorsement of the project. The actor, who created one of Indian television’s most enduring superhero figures, shared that the team’s treatment of the character stayed true to his original intent. “Shaktimaan was created to inspire truth, selflessness, and courage in young minds. These values are timeless… I’m glad to see that the essence of Shaktimaan is alive and speaking to a new generation in a new voice,” he said, noting that the adaptation balances a fresh storyline with the superhero’s traditional moral core.
The audio series expands Shaktimaan’s universe with a contemporary narrative. This time, the hero faces Mahatatva — once a guardian of balance, now a corrupted force — prompting a quest for five elemental jewels to restore harmony. The nearly 10-hour saga uses cinematic sound design to recreate large-scale action and emotional beats purely through audio, marking one of Indian audio entertainment’s most ambitious superhero productions.
Rohan Nayak, CEO and Co-founder of Pocket FM, said the goal was to bring back an Indian superhero in a way that resonated with today’s listeners. “Bringing him back wasn’t about rebooting the 90s; it was about showing how timeless Indian heroes can be when told through a modern style of storytelling and with a new storyline,” he said, adding that the platform aims to reimagine more Indian superheroes going forward.
To mark the launch, a playful brand film was unveiled featuring 90s Bollywood villains — including Gulshan Grover, Ranjeet, and Shehzad Khan — reacting in comic panic to Shaktimaan’s return, culminating in a nostalgic “Sorry Shaktimaan!” moment. Shaktimaan Returns is now streaming free on Pocket FM.
