Morbi Bridge Collapse: Priyanka Chopra, Vivek Agnihotri, & other Bollywood celebrities express grief; offer condolences

Bollywood celebrities like Priyanka Chopra, Vivek Agnihotri and others prayed for the victims who lost their lives or were injured in the incident in Gujarat.

Reportedly around 132 people were killed when the suspension bridge over the Machchhu River in Morbi, Gujarat, collapsed on Sunday. To save more lives and aid those hurt in the collision, search and rescue activities are in progress. As the nation mourns this tragedy, even Bollywood celebrities have come forward and expressed their grief.

Over a century-old bridge in Morbi city, around 300 miles from the state capital Gandhinagar, collapsed due to overcrowding around 6.30 pm on Sunday. Reacting to the mishap, Anupam Kher wrote a note on Twitter, which read, “Deeply saddened by the tragedy of suspension bridge collapse in Morbi. My Deepest condolences to all the families who have lost their loved ones in this tragedy and pray for the speedy recovery who are injured (sic).”

On the other hand, filmmaker Vivek Agnihotri also extended his support, and wrote, “Deeply saddened to hear about Morbi Bridge collapse. My prayers for all the victims’ families. All those responsible must be punished with acts of murder. Also probe if it’s a sabotage by #UrbanNaxals because they are very capable of going to any extent (sic),” on Twitter.

Actresses Priyanka Chopra and Malaika Arora also shared an Instagram story on their respective accounts. Their caption read, “So heartbreaking...My condolence goes out to everyone affected by the bridge collapse in Gujarat. Praying for a speedy recovery of those injured. My thoughts &prayers are with the families who mourn today.”

Among many others, Daisy Shah also reacted to this sad incident. In an Instagrams story, she wrote, “Heartfelt condolences to all the families who lost their dear ones and my prayer for the injured.”

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to visit Morbi in Gujarat today. Gujarat’s Home Minister Harsh Sanghavi had said that a criminal case has been registered in connection with the incident.
