Actor Mona Singh continued to enjoy the success of her recent web series The Ba***ds of Bollywood. She shared that she chose the role carefully and that being selective in her career came with both advantages and challenges. She explained, “I was approached for Anupamaa years ago. But by then, I had decided that I didn’t want to continue doing TV. So, I declined the show.”
At that stage of her career, the 44-year-old had made a conscious decision to focus on OTT projects and pick character-driven roles. She added that she never accepted work “just to be seen.” Instead, she chose roles that made her happy and allowed her to connect with the character. “I don’t want to regret my decisions later or carry any negative energy on set,” she said.
The lead role eventually went to actor Rupali Ganguly, who has been playing the character for more than five years. Mona expressed her admiration, saying, “I’m really happy for Rupali and producer Rajan Shahi. She is doing such a fabulous job. I think that role was meant for her, and she has owned it beautifully.”
Mona admitted that being selective was not always simple. “It means waiting for the right project to come your way, but I’m okay with that. I don’t regret being selective,” she shared. She also reflected on how social media influenced casting decisions in the industry. “We’ve all heard of instances where influencers with huge followings get cast to pull in more views,” she said.
Her recent project, Thode Door Thode Paas, dealt with the overuse of digital media and the idea of taking a digital detox. Mona said she felt fortunate that people continued to value actors for their craft rather than just their follower count.
