Bollywood actress Dia Mirza who is expecting her first child with husband Vaibhav Rekhi recently stressed the importance of keeping pregnant and lactating women safe amidst the surge in COVID -19 cases in India. She took to her Twitter handle to stress the point while responding to a tweet concerning COVID protocols for pregnant women.
Dia pointed out how none of the COVID vaccines used in India has been tested on pregnant women. "This is really important. Must read and also note that none of the vaccinations currently being used in India have been tested on pregnant and lactating mothers," she tweeted.
"My doctor says we cannot take these vaccines until required clinical trials have been done," she added. Currently, India is making use of Serum Institue's Covishield and Bharat BioTech's Covaxin. The country will soon be rolling out Russia's Sputnik as well.
