The iconic Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge (1995) which created history in many aspects, including being the longest running Indian film ever in theatres, was going to be a part of the repertoire of Milind Gunaji. However, the Devdas actor had to lose out on the opportunity. Milind recently opened up about losing out the role of Simran’s fiancé in the Shah Rukh Khan, Kajol starrer and it was all because of a beard.

In a recent interview, Milind Gunaji recalled the time when they were finalizing the cast for Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge. The actor revealed that he was busy with multiple projects at that time and although he was keen on essaying the role of Kuljeet, who is engaged to Simran aka Kajol, he couldn’t because he was doing films which required him to sport a beard. On the other hand, readers would recall that the character of Kuljeet in the film was clean-shaven.

Milind reportedly revealed about it to Bollywood Thikana saying, “When I was called, the makers did not want a beard on my face. I was not able to remove the beard because I was shooting for three to four films which required a beard. I felt really bad.” The actor also mentioned that he lost an opportunity to feature alongside Amitabh Bachchan in Mrityudata due to the same reason.

Milind Gunaji, who is known for acting in Bollywood, Marathi, and South films, recently featured in the blockbuster Kartik Aaryan starrer Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2, in which he essayed the role of Thakur Vijendra Singh Rathore. He also featured in a pivotal role in the Rajkummar Rao starrer HIT: The First Case (Hindi).

Talking about DDLJ, the legendary romantic drama, which was also remade in Hollywood, featured Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol in lead roles along with Parmeet Sethi, Mandira Bedi, Anupam Kher, Farida Jalal, Satish Shah, Himani Shivpuri, among others in pivotal roles. The film ran in theatres for over two decades.
