Actor Mihir Ahuja is set to portray an Indian Air Force pilot in Netflix’s upcoming series Operation Safed Sagar, a military drama inspired by the Indian Air Force’s aerial campaign during the 1999 Kargil War. Directed by Oni Sen, the series features an ensemble cast including Jimmy Shergill, Siddharth, Dia Mirza, Abhay Verma, Prajakta Koli, Adil Hussain, and Mihir Ahuja.
Based on real events, Operation Safed Sagar chronicles the Indian Air Force’s strategic aerial mission launched on May 26, 1999, in support of the Indian Army’s Operation Vijay. The campaign was aimed at targeting Pakistani regular and irregular forces that had infiltrated Indian positions along the Line of Control during the Kargil conflict. Conducted at altitudes between 15,000 and 18,000 feet, the operation is widely regarded as the highest-altitude air war in history.
For Mihir Ahuja, the project marks his first opportunity to portray an Indian Air Force officer on screen. Reflecting on the experience, the actor shared his thoughts on being associated with a story rooted in a significant chapter of Indian military history.
Talking about being part of the series, Mihir Ahuja said, “Operation Safed Sagar is not just a show or a project for me, it is a story that carries immense emotional and historical significance for our country. Growing up, we have all heard about the bravery, sacrifice, and courage of our armed forces, but being able to step into the shoes of an Indian Air Force pilot and experience even a small glimpse of that world has been truly humbling. This is the first time I’m playing an IAF officer on screen, and honestly, it feels like a dream come true.”
He further added, “What makes this project even more special is the fact that it is based on a real-life mission that changed the course of history during the Kargil War. The scale, intensity, and emotional depth of the story are incredible. Knowing that Operation Safed Sagar remains the highest-altitude air war ever executed adds another layer of respect and responsibility while portraying it. As actors, we often search for stories that move us personally, and this is one of those rare projects that stays with you long after the camera stops rolling.”
The actor also spoke about the preparation involved for the role and working with the team behind the series. Speaking about the preparation process and working alongside an ensemble cast, Mihir shared, “There was a lot of emotional and physical preparation involved because we wanted to approach the story with honesty and authenticity. Playing a pilot requires discipline, focus, and understanding the mindset of someone who is willing to put the nation before everything else. Working with Oni Sen sir and such an incredible cast has been an enriching experience because everyone involved understands the importance of telling this story with sincerity and respect.”
Mihir further reflected on the impact the project had on him personally, adding, “As a young actor, being associated with a story that is so important to India as a nation feels extremely special. Beyond the action and scale, this series is about courage, sacrifice, brotherhood, and patriotism. I genuinely hope audiences feel the same pride and emotion while watching it that we felt while making it.”
Operation Safed Sagar is currently among Netflix’s upcoming original offerings and will bring to screen the events surrounding one of the most significant air operations in India’s military history.
