Iconic filmmaker Rituparno Ghosh’s 12^th death anniversary took place yesterday. Manisha Koirala got talking about him and her experience of working with him in an interview with us.

You worked with Rituparno in a beautiful film Khela

Yes, it was a truly a memorable experience for me. I learnt so much from him. He was an entire textbook; no an entire school on cinema.

His scholarliness was akin to Satyajit Ray’s

Just conversing with him between shots was enlightening. I truly, truly miss him and love him so much. You know, I treasure the memories that we worked together, the affection that he gave me, the delicacy that he brought to his work. You know, he encompassed and exhibited art, artistry, intensity, everything in one go.

How was it working with him in Khela?

I came away so much richer as an actor after Khela. It was such a huge satisfaction for me to work with a genius director, such a sensitive director. And, you know, to watch him, to learn, to see every detail. And also, he would explain my scenes with so much love and compassion.

It is hard to believe he is gone

You know, I really miss him. And wherever he is, he should know that people who loved him and who are missing him.
