Netflix’s upcoming biopic Maestro reveals first look images for an almost unrecognizable Bradley Cooper transformed into the titular role of music genius Leonard Bernstein and Carey Mulligan as Bernstein's wife, Felicia Montealegre.

After making his directorial debut with A Star Is Born, in which he also starred as the doomed rocker Jackson Maine, Bradley Cooper is returning to star in as well as direct Maestro, a biopic about the legendary composer Leonard Bernstein. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the film will chronicle the complex love story of Leonard Bernstein and his wife Felicia Montealegre. It’s a story that spanned more than 30 years, from the time they met in 1946 at a party, and continuing through two on-off engagements, a 25-year marriage, three children (Jamie, Alexander and Nina) and as Leonard grappled with his own sexual orientation.

The streaming giant dropped the first images for the upcoming biopic on Monday, May 30. The images reveal Bradley Cooper, who is almost unrecognizable in the stunning transformation of the music legend, along with first look at Carey Mulligan as Bernstein's wife, Felicia Montealegre Cohn Bernstein. The images give a glimpse of Cooper and Mulligan, completely transformed, transported to the '40s when the couple first met at a party. One of the pictures also showcases Cooper in Bernstein’s attire wielding a camera directed towards Mulligan who is seen sitting cross-legged, casually gazing into the camera.

Apart from his acting and directing duties on the film, Maestro also sees Cooper’s take on co-writing duties alongside Spotlight screenwriter Josh Singer. Cooper has reportedly been working on the film for "the last four and half years" with writer Josh Singer. Earlier it was announced that Matt Bomer has signed on to the project as well as Maya Hawke who will be playing Bernstein and Montealegre's daughter, Jamie Bernstein. The film is being produced by Cooper, Kristie Macosko Krieger, Fred Berner, Amy Durning, Martin Scorsese and Steven Spielberg. Filming is currently underway for Maestro, which will be released in 2023.
