Ranveer Singh is all set to play a notorious police officer in Rohit Shetty’s upcoming film Simmba. And what’s more, he’ll also sport a moustache in this entertaining flick. The combination of moustache and notorious cop has been quite interesting. Over the years, a lot of actors have donned the said avatars and it has entertained audiences. In this feature, let’s have a look at these actors:
1. Salman Khan (Dabangg)
Think notorious cop and the first one to come into mind is definitely the character of Chulbul Pandey, essayed wonderfully by Salman Khan in the blockbuster Dabangg. The actor was in top form in this stylishly written character and took the idea of notoriety to another level!
2. Sanjay Dutt (Policegiri; Thanedaar; Eklavya)
Sanjay Dutt’s laidback and bindaas attitude always emerges as an advantage when it comes to playing cool, wicked characters. And the actor used it wonderfully in the Thanedaar that was much loved. Sanjay Dutt tried to do a Dabangg with Policegiri but sadly, it didn’t work much. As for Eklavya, he had a supporting role as a Rajput police officer and it was one of the best parts of this otherwise dull film.
3. Anil Kapoor (Mr Azaad)
Anil Kapoor has had a moustache for almost all his films and in Mr Azaad, he had a twirled moustache, which incidentally, is also sported by Ranveer Singh in Simmba.
4. Akshay Kumar (Rowdy Rathore)
Akshay Kumar rocked the show in Rowdy Rathore as the cop who fearlessly takes on the goons and fights with them till his last breath. Like Dabangg changed Salman Khan’s career for the better so did Rowdy Rathore for Akshay Kumar. It was his biggest grosser for a long time till Toilet – Ek Prem Katha.
5. Aarya Babbar (Tees Maar Khan)
Aarya Babbar had a supporting part in this comic caper but he was quite hilarious as the entertaining cop. For many, he was the best part of the film.
6. Govinda (Kaun Rokega Mujhe)
This film was a disaster but showcased Govinda in a hilarious role as the mooch wala police guy.
7. Nawazuddin Siddiqui (Raees)
Nawazuddin Siddiqui in Raees wasn’t exactly notorious in the real sense of the term. But some of his actions were indeed quirky and naughty, from his entry sequence too few of the clap worthy dialogues.
8. Bobby Deol (Chor Machaye Shor)
In this film, Bobby Deol’s character didn’t boast of an actual moustache. One of the avatars he dons in the film is that of a fake police officer who has a fake moustache but nobody gets a whiff about it, till the end. Though the moustache and other elements in the film were copied from the cult film Gol Maal, Bobby’s moustachioed cop avatar was liked by masses.
